Former Los Zetas Cartel Drug Dealer Shot in Face near Texas Border

Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas and Coahuila to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Coahuila — Authorities in this border city continue to investigate the shooting death of a street level cartel drug dealer who tried to leave a life of crime. The victim was shot in the face.

Early on Friday morning, Coahuila state authorities responded to a call to the 066 emergency line, similar to 911 in America. When authorities arrived they found 22-year-old Jose Luis Hernandez Gamez with a single gunshot wound just above the cheekbone. Emergency personnel rushed him to a local hospital where Hernandez clung to life for two hours before passing away.

Los Zetas Murder

According to information provided to Breitbart Texas by law enforcement sources, Hernandez had been at a street corner awaiting public transportation on his way to work when two gunmen approached him. One of the gunmen fired a 9mm handgun several times striking him once on the face. After shooting Hernandez, both hitmen ran away heading in opposite directions.

Since the murder, investigators have detained four men in connection with the crime. The suspects roles in the case remain unclear at this time. Law enforcement sources consulted by Breitbart Texas confirmed that the victim has been a street level drug dealer for the Los Zetas cartel. Authorities had recently arrested him on drug dealing charges and after being released, he had tried to get out of the trade. His efforts to leave the cartel may have been a motive for his execution.
