‘You’re Already a Hero,’ Trump Tells Texas Girl with Rare Disease

Sophia Marie Campa-Peters and President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump told a little girl from Texas with a rare disease that causes her to suffer strokes, “You’re already a hero.” The nine-year-old sat in the front row of the National Prayer Breakfast with her parents after surviving a successful brain surgery on January 24.

Sophia Marie Campa-Peters, a resident of Brownfield, Texas, suffers from a rare disease that causes her blood vessels in her brain to constrict and close, Fox News reported. The disorder caused the young girl to suffer four massive strokes three years ago. The episodes left her partially paralyzed and doctors told her she might never walk again.

President Trump told the attendees of the National Prayer Breakfast that Sophia looked at the doctors and said, “If you’re only going to talk about what I can’t do, then I don’t want to hear it. Just let me try to walk.”

Since her strokes, Sophia endured numerous surgeries–the last one on January 24.

Sophia did not just try to walk. She accomplished the monumental task of teaching her body to stand erect and walk. When asked how she was able, Sophia responded with a smile, “Because I am awesome.”

President Trump asked Sophia about her “great mom.”

“I have a great mom,” Trump told the audience of her response. “I love my mom.”

“Millions and millions of people lifted Sophia up in their prayers,” the President said. “Today we thank God that Sophia is with us and she’s recovering and she’s walking very well.”

Sophia received a standing ovation from those gathered at the event where President Trump honored our nation’s military heroes.

Addressing Sophia, President Trump concluded, “You may only be nine-years-old but you’re already a hero to all of us in this room and all over the world.”
