Krauthammer: Trump’s Appeal Partially Due to ‘Fear of the Other’

Columnist Charles Krauthammer argued Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s appeal is, in part, due to “fear of the other” and that Trump is “exploiting fear” with issues that aren’t “as huge a problem as Trump has made them out to be” on Monday’s “O’Reilly Factor” on the Fox News Channel.

Krauthammer said [relevant remarks begin around 2:55] “[P]art of the appeal, has to do with fear of the other. And that’s what Trump tuned into right away, with Mexican rapists, with the idea that Muslims have to be given special treatment, that Muslims should not be allowed into the country. I think this is exploiting fear. I don’t think that these are as huge a problem as Trump has made them out to be. This is, you’re right, this is a resentment felt…but it’s been amplified by a candidate who knows how to exploit that.”
