Former MLB GM Jim Duquette on Kaepernick: ‘I Don’t Think He Should Be Employed’ If He Continues Protest

Friday on the Offended America podcast, former New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles general manager Jim Duquette weighed in on quarterback Colin Kaepernick, saying he does not think the free agent should be employed if he continues his national anthem protests.

Duquette warned that the envelope continues to be pushed in sports and questioned where the political statements would stop.

“I don’t think [Kaepernick] should be employed if he’s going to continue to take that stand,” Duquette told host Jacob Wohl. “There are adults out there that can make decisions like this. I mean, teams, general managers, owners can decide if they want to have that type of player on their club and bring attention to it or not.”

“There are other ways to bring attention to what Colin Kaepernick is trying to highlight. Certainly, being, in my opinion, disrespectful to the flag and what it represents is not one of them,” he added.

ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter reported in March that Kaepernick planned to stand for the national anthem in 2017, but the quarterback has since gone unsigned three weeks into the season.
