On March 31 an elderly man on oxygen was allegedly attacked by two men in his home, but he stopped the attack by grabbing his gun and shooting one of the suspects in the abdomen.

The incident occurred at night in Washington County, Missouri. Police believe the motivation for the attack was the theft of narcotics.

According to the Daily Journal, two men came to the elderly man’s home. One of the two was known to the elderly man, the second of the two was wearing a dark mask. The two men allegedly accosted the elderly man and threw him across the couch. He landed very near the place where he keeps his gun and was able grab it and open fire, critically wounding one of the two suspects.

Both suspects fled the scene after the elderly man opened fire.

Washington County Sheriff’s Department Captain Zach Jacobsen arrived on scene to find the elderly man “was having some cardiac issues, was short of breath and had some abrasions and bruising.” He was transported to Washington County Memorial Hospital.

Both suspects were later captured. The one that had been shot was captured while seeking treatment for his wound.
