Protesters, Popcorn, and Drama in the Senate as President Trump Visits For Lunch

President Donald Trump traveled to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to meet with Senate Republicans to discuss his agenda.

But prior to the meeting, Sen. Bob Corker resumed his ongoing personal feud with Trump, prompting a second round of tweets and media between the two Republicans.

Trump, however, came to the Senate lunch anyway despite Corker’s repeated insults.

He arrived on Capitol Hill and walked into the Senate lunch with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell at his side.

Despite the feud, Corker said he would also attend the lunch.

“Of course,” he said to reporters, when asked if he would be attending the Senate lunch. “It’s my lunch. He’s coming to our lunch.”

Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina symbolically brought popcorn to the lunch.

As Trump arrived, a man from Americans Take Action — a leftist group that wants to impeach him — threw a handful of Russian flags at the president and shouted, “TRUMP IS TREASON!”

“This president conspired with agents of the Russian government to steal an election, we should be talking about TREASON!” he shouted before being dragged away by Capitol Police officers.

Trump met with senators for about an hour before exiting the Capitol. He did not respond to questions.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sen. Mitch McConnell tried to downplay the controversy with Corker to focus on tax reform.

“There’s a lot of noise out there,” he said. “We have a First Amendment in this country, everyone gets to express themselves.”

“It was a very positive meeting,” Republican Sen. John Kennedy told reporters after Trump GOP lunch. “Nobody called anyone an ignorant slut.”

According to Capitol Hill reporters, Senate Republicans served meatloaf and cherry pie for lunch.
