Rolling Stone Editor: Come On, Everybody 'Gets' Biden

Eric Bates, the executive editor of the scintillating, intellectual journal Rolling Stone, wants us to just forget about worrying over Vice President Joe Biden’s constant gaffes. We all “get” Joe, he says, so let’s just ignore his long trail of mistakes and idiotic statements.

That is what Bates said from the discussion panel on the August 15 broadcast of MSNBC’s Now With Alex Wagner when Biden’s “put ya’all back in chains” comment was brought up for discussion.

Bates tried to wave off Biden’s gaffe and instead turned the whole thing around on Mitt Romney as if he was the one at fault here.

I think it’s going to blow over pretty quickly, so I don’t think we will have to do much to get past it. I think Romney’s response, even the rhetoric of his response, is interesting. He called the Obama administration angry and desperate. Well, you can call Obama a lot of things. Angry isn’t one that comes to mind very often, and I think a lot of his own supporters would like to see President Obama more angry than he is. Desperate? If you want a sign of desperation, latching on to something Joe Biden says, as evidence of anything, that’s an act of desperation.

Bates went on to dismiss Biden’s constant stream of foot-in-mouth moments with an “aw, that’s just Joe” explanation.

“He’s almost gaffe-proof in that we’ve come to expect that from him so much,” Bates said offhandedly, “and it’s a reflection of who he is and how he talks, and everybody kind of gets that.”

So, we should just shrug our shoulders and let good ol’ Joe just ramble on about any crazy notion that comes to his senile mind and we shouldn’t worry about it, Mr. Bates?

We, shouldn’t expect the number two man of the most powerful nation in the world to be a respected, serious figure on the national and international stage?  We shouldn’t be worried that one of our highest government officials is a laughing stock? We should just settle for a fool pretending at being a leader and we shouldn’t give it all a second thought?

So, I take it, then, Mr. Bates, that you consider Vice President Dan Quayle to have been the greatest Veep in history? I take it that in the 90s when Mr. Quayle was being lambasted at every turn, you were walking around telling people not to be so harsh on the Veep? Because, after all, that’s just how Dan was, right?

The hypocrisy of the left is simply amazing.
