A 10-year-old girl from Tyler, Texas received a hero’s welcome when she visited some New York City police officers. Savannah Solis was deeply moved by the murders of NYPD Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos last December, and decided to show her support by sending thank you notes to police officers in New York City and all over Texas, as Breitbart Texas reported.
So far, Savannah has sent about 200 cards to officers in New York, and an additional 300 to officers in Texas, according to CBS-DFW.
This week, Savannah visited a precinct in the Bronx, where she was greeted by an NYPD helicopter flyover and received her own NYPD cap from the precinct’s K-9 unit handlers. She was then taken inside for a special ceremony where she read her message of gratitude to the officers, several of whom were moved to tears.
“My goal is to tell as many police officers as I can that I love them, and I thank them for what they do for us,” said Savannah . “To my heroes, I want to say, ‘Don’t stop. Please don’t give up. Many do not care or appreciate the sacrifices you make every day, but I do.”
According to Savannah’s mother, Debbie Solis, Savannah has wanted to be a police officer for years, ever since she saw police officers help her mother after she suffered a heart attack at their home.
Savannah has a Facebook page, Savannah Says Thanks, where she provides updates about her mission to thank law enforcement officers across the country and encourages other children to do the same.
The NYPD officers will have some competition for Savannah when she is old enough to become a police officer. As Breitbart Texas reported, when she visited the Austin Police Department last month, they also promised to recruit her in a few years.
