Mexican authorities are looking into the seizure of more than 100 pounds of crystal meth and two pounds of heroin in the border city of Matamoros, just south of Brownsville, Texas. The shipment was originally intended for several U.S. distribution routes, all part of a network controlled by the Gulf Cartel.

The seizure occurred Monday night when agents with the Tamaulipas State Police raided an undisclosed location, where they arrested a man and woman linked to Gulf Cartel leadership. Authorities seized two vehicles and the drugs. The meth has an approximate weight of 110 pounds, while the heroin was described as 2.2 pounds.

The unit of state police behind the raid is the same that carried out a kidnapping investigation in Reynosa, which ended in a shootout that ultimately killed four cartel gunmen linked to more than 30 cases in the last two years.
