CIUDAD VICTORIA, Tamaulipas – The turf war for the state capital led to three murders in a recent 12-hour span.

The most current statistics revealed that in a two-week span, Ciudad Victoria suffered 12 homicides and six more shooting injuries. Other cities in the state, such as Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo, are seeing continuous levels of violence in related turf struggles.

The most recent rash of violence began on Saturday night in Ciudad Victoria on the western side when gunmen barged into a bar to kill two men and injured a woman. The men are identified as Roel Rivera and Jorge Walle. Preliminary information points to the victims as having been shot execution-style. Paramedics rushed a Paula Mireles Sanchez to a hospital for gunshot wounds.

Reports of gunmen roaming the streets went on for several hours through Saturday into Sunday morning, culminating with a shooting shortly before 9am when they killed a transit police officer as he was leaving his post.

Law enforcement information revealed that Transit Police Officer Juan Jose Montoya Yepez finished his shift and was waiting for his wife when gunmen ambushed and shot him several times. Montoya Yepez died at the scene, while his wife was rushed to a hospital for injuries.

Preliminary information suggests Montoya Yepez had no known ties to organized crime. In recent weeks, various cartels and independent smuggling operations began fighting for control of Ciudad Victoria.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “Francisco Morales” from Tamaulipas.
