Edelman Describes Super Bowl Catch to Jimmy Fallon: ‘It Was Probably Like 70 Percent Luck’

Monday, New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick and wide receiver Julian Edelman appeared on NBC’S “The Tonight Show” to discuss Sunday’s stunning rally from down 25 points to beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28.

As part of the Patriots’ comeback, Edelman made a miraculous catch with just over two minutes remaining down by eight points.

Edelman said the catch, which has been deemed by many as the best ever in Super Bowl history, was “probably 70 percent luck.”

“After it all happened, I was kind of disappointed in my route,” Edelman admitted to host Jimmy Fallon. “‘[The catch] was probably like 70 percent luck.”

“I don’t know if I didn’t get it. You don’t know what a catch is these days,” he added, taking a shot at the NFL’s controversial catch rules.

Edelman also said he tried to tell quarterback Tom Brady to hurry up and run another play so it could not be reviewed. The play was reviewed anyway, but was confirmed as a catch.
