Viral Video: Michael Keaton Sadly Puts Acceptance Speech Back in Pocket

Birdman-1

While Birdman may have cleaned up at the 87th Academy Awards, the film’s lead, Michael Keaton, did not. Contrary to his expectations, Keaton failed to take home the Best Actor award.

While those around him applauded the Academy’s selection of Eddie Redmayne as this year’s best on Sunday, a Vine video has surfaced of the 63-year-old awkwardly shoving what appears to be an acceptance speech into his tuxedo jacket:

Keaton seemed to accept the events, and later humbly joined the Birdman cast and crew on stage after the film won Best Picture.

In a decades-long career that’s taken him from Batman to Birdman, Keaton has never taken home a golden statue, but did secure the Best Actor award at this year’s Golden Globes.

In his acceptance speech in January, Keaton said: “In the household in which I was raised, the themes were pretty simple. “Work hard. Don’t quit. Be appreciative, be thankful, be grateful, be respectful. Also, never whine, never complain. And always, for crying out loud, keep a sense of humor.”
