Video game developer Rockstar Games has sued the BBC for trademark violation concerning the BBC’s new drama, Game Changer.

Game Changer narrates the battle between Rockstar President Sam Houser and American lawyer Jack Thompson. The two have clashed over Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto video game franchise, which Rockstar develops and Thompson opposes.

Grand Theft Auto and other violent video games have recently become a political battleground recently, with authoritarians in the video game press and industry creating a new moral panic over video game content. For example, while game producer Alex Lifschitz literally destroyed a copy of GTA V in front of an audience for being “exceptionally misogynistic,” Breitbart News journalist Milo Yiannopoulos worked with developer Running with Scissors to make his own likeness a target for brutality in Postal 2: Paradise Lost.
