Jay-Z and Beyoncé being praised as politically powerful purveyors of pro-Black Pantherism is not without irony.

With Beyoncé’s Black Panther Party tribute at the Super Bowl and her husband Jay-Z’s music streaming service TIDAL’s $1.5 million donation to Black Lives Matter, the pro-black power couple is flexing their political muscle.

According to Forbes, the “Formation” singer’s net worth is at least $250 million. The business magazine puts Jay-z’s total assets at over $550 million, as of May 2015.

Some estimates place Beyoncé’s net worth at $450 million and her husband Jay-Z’s at $650 million, a total well over a billion dollars.

Beyoncé’s new single “Formation” is chockfull of Black Lives Matter propaganda. The singer’s Super Bowl performance of the song has “Black Panther” politics trending on Twitter and other social media platforms.

Indeed, both Beyoncé and Jay-Z are very successful entertainers and have mastered commercialism. But a brief look at the founders and the fundamental philosophy behind the Black Panther Party reveals its contempt for capitalism.

Black Panther Party founders Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale supported full-throated socialism and despised a capitalist economic system. The two left-wing militants consistently expressed their disdain for the “white man’s” capitalism.

“We have two evils to fight, capitalism and racism. We must destroy both racism and capitalism,” said Black Panther Party founder Huey P. Newton.

“We do not fight racism with racism. We fight racism with solidarity. We do not fight exploitative capitalism with Black capitalism. We fight capitalism with basic socialism. And we do not fight imperialism with more imperialism. We fight imperialism with proletarian internationalism,” wrote Black Panther Party founder Bobby Seale in his biography Seize the Time: The Story of the Black Panther Party and Huey P. Newton.
