A San Diego woman made a slithering discovery at San Diego-based Vertical PR firm this week when she found a 5 1/2 foot Columbian rainbow boa constrictor in the toilet of the ladies room.

“I thought my eyes were deceiving me. But as soon I saw the flicker of its tongue, I definitely knew that it was in fact a large snake heading straight towards me,” Stephanie Lacsa told the local NBC News affiliate in San Diego.

Lacsa darted out of the bathroom and sealed the door shut with tape and waited an hour and a half for animal control to arrive, with all the employees in the office keeping their feet off the ground and on their desks. An official reportedly said it was the first time she’d seen anything of this kind in her career and referred to the discovery of the snake in the toilet as “the stuff of urban legends,” notes NBC.

On Thursday, it was revealed that the snake belongs to a resident on the floor above the office. The snake may have entered the toilet because boa constrictors seek water before shedding their skins, reported the local ABC News affiliate.
