Defense attorneys for retired football star O.J. Simpson’s 1995 murder trial “dream team” are calling the discovery of new evidence “ridiculous” and “far-fetched” in the investigation into murders of Simpson’s ex-wife and her friend.
On Friday it was revealed that the Los Angeles Police Department was testing a knife found on Simpson’s property somewhere between 1998 and several years ago, but wasn’t turned in until recently.
Simpson defense attorney F. Lee Bailey told Fox 25 that O.J. dropping the knife was as likely as having dropped the infamous gloves, calling the “whole thing…ridiculous.” However, he went on to pre-empt any incriminating evidence that may be found on the knife saying that the officer that received the knife from the construction worker that found it has “destroyed any credibility you might prescribe to it.”
Bailey suggested that Fox is conveniently airing the news during an FX series on the trial. TMZ appears to be the first outlet to have reported the story on Friday citing law enforcement sources.
Another Simpson dream teamer, Carl Douglas assailed “the world” and the media for not moving on from the case and an enduring fascination with Simpson according to the Los Angeles Times.
Simpson appellate advisor Alan Dershowitz was also highly skeptical of breaking news of the knife.
LAPD Capt. Andy Neiman cautioned at a Friday press conference that the investigation is still in early stages. The reason for the officer withholding the evidence remains a mystery. Neiman suggested that the authenticity of the evidence has not yet been definitely determined.

As the story goes the construction worker handed the knife to a police officer who happened to be off-duty at the time. That officer reportedly took the knife home and kept it for years. It was only brought to the attention of investigators when the officer sought to have the bucknife framed with the departmental record number of the case on the frame.
Simpson was acquitted from the murders of his ex-wife and Goldman in 1995. The murders have not been solved leaving the case open. Under double jeopardy law Simpson cannot be tried again for the crime.
