TEL AVIV — Pro-Hamas Palestinians have taken to social media to hail the move by Hamas to hang three Palestinians last week who were allegedly convicted for collaborating with Israel.
The sentencing by a Gaza martial court came in the wake of the assassination of top Hamas operative Mazen Faqha last month, which the movement attributed to Israel and local collaborators.
Although the convicted collaborators were arrested before Faqha’s assassination, some pro-Hamas Palestinian social media users saw them as examples of how collaborators should be punished.
The hashtag #punish_collaborators has been launched.
Ibrahim Abu Naja, an activist from Gaza, wrote: “We all hope that this sentence will deter those who consider collaborating with the occupation.”

Referring to the hanging as well as the car-ramming attack against an Israeli soldier in the West Bank last week, Manar Ahmad wrote:
“War against the occupation and its collaborators… The hanging of collaborators and killing of a Zionist in the West Bank. The resistance should defend itself by itself.”

“The occupation and its collaborators are under the guillotine of the resistance in Gaza and the West Bank without mercy,” Samir Nasser tweeted.

Anssam Abou Odeh said that the collaborators’ parents should take part in their execution: “I think that their parents should take part in the execution to bathe in the blood of those who shamed them.”

“Whoever betrayed his people, country and family should be killed by hanging – a punishment that is commensurate with the felony,” Moaz Rajab tweeted.
من خان شعبه ووطنه وأهله فلا جزاءَ له إلا أن يُعلّقَ على أعواد المشانق
فـ الجزاء من جنس العمل ..#القصاص_من_العملاء

“If you want to liberate your land, load your gun with 10 bullets – nine for the traitors and one for your enemy, because without the traitor, your enemy wouldn’t have dared,” Yousef wrote.
For some, alleged collaboration with the enemy wasn’t strictly about Israel. Awni wondered why Majed Faraj, the head of intelligence in the Palestinian Authority, wasn’t executed for his open coordination with Israel.
“What’s the point of cutting off the hands if the head remains? The head of treason is called Majed Faraj. This is just a reminder.”
