It appears that September 4 was not the first time Democrat National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz had lied about Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren’s position on Israel and the Republican Party. She has made similar claims on at least one occasion, most recently in a print interview in August 2012.
On the 4th, Wasserman Schultz told a gathering at the Democratic National Convention that Oren had described the Republican approach to Israel as “dangerous” to the Jewish state. Oren quickly rebutted the claim, saying, “I categorically deny that I ever characterized Republican policies as harmful to Israel.” Schultz later denied that she had quoted Oren as being critical of Republicans, but the Washington Examiner produced recorded proof.
It now appears that Wasserman Schultz had made similar claims before. In an August interview with Hadassah magazine, Wasserman Schultz claimed that Oren said: “[Republicans] are using Israel as a political football.” Wasserman Schultz then translated her own assertion of what Oren allegedly said to mean that the Republican approach “strengthens Israel’s enemies.”
Meanwhile, the Obama administration has hinted that the U.S. will not help Israel launch of a pre-emptive strike against the Iranian nuclear program, which years of diplomacy have failed to stop.
