Dec. 23 (UPI) — Former Conservative politician Philip Young has been charged with 56 offenses, including multiple counts of rape against his ex-wife, Joanne Young.
Young, 49, a former Swindon borough councillor from 2007 to 2010 and now living in Enfield, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court, confirming his name and address but entering no plea.
In addition, he received charges of administering a substance to facilitate sexual activity, voyeurism, and possession of indecent and extreme images.
Young faces a list of criminal charges, including 11 counts of rape, seven counts of sexual assault by penetration, four counts of sexual touching, 11 counts of administering a substance with intent to stupefy/overpower to allow sexual activity, and 13 counts of voyeurism specific to videos.
He was remanded in custody until a Jan. 23 hearing at Swindon Crown Court.
Young allegedly possessed three illegal and 82 extreme images, covering categories of rape, animals, death and gore. He also faces accusations of violating the Obscene Publications Act of 1959 more than 500 times.
The alleged offenses span from 2010 to 2023.
Five other men — Norman Macksoni, Dean Hamilton, Conner Sanderson Doyle, Richard Wilkins and Mohammed Hassan — have also been charged with sexual offenses against Young’s former spouse.
Meanwhile, she waived her right to anonymity.
All five men appeared separately and were released on conditional bail.
