April 22 (UPI) — A24 is giving a glimpse of the new film The Death of Robin Hood.

The movie is a dark reimagining of the folk hero Robin Hood and is inspired by the 17th-century ballad Robin Hood’s Death.

Most frequently depicted as a vigilante hero who “robs the rich to give to the poor,” this Robin Hood played by Hugh Jackman is instead a violent outlaw named Roman.

“People speak of Robin Hood, tell his stories. They’re all lies. Lies that I told long ago, so that fools would follow me into the dark,” the character says in the trailer. “We were monsters.”

“This world cares only about blood, and blood is all I will give in return,” he adds.

Jodie Comer and Bill Skarsgård also star in the film, written and directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One).

The Death of Robin Hood opens in theaters June 19.

Previous incarnations of Robin Hood include the 1973 animated Disney movie Robin Hood, the 1976 live-action film Robin and Marian starring Sean Connery, and the 2010 live-action movie starring Russell Crowe.
