Sept. 1 (UPI) — Florida State University football linebacker Ethan Pritchard was listed in critical but stable condition after a gun shot attack while visiting family, the school announced Monday.
The incident took place a little before 10 p.m. Sunday in Havana in the north central part of Florida’s panhandle, according to authorities.
The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office said Pritchard was located inside a vehicle and rushed to an intensive care unit at a nearby hospital.
FSU officials confirmed Monday that Pritchard was visiting family in north Florida.
The rising four-star recruit athlete Pritchard is a Seminole High School graduated who committed in October 2023 to Florida State as his pick among other school football programs.
He was called a “standout football player” on Monday by Seminole’s athletics department on social media.

Meanwhile, exact details of events related to what lead to Sunday’s shooting event are not fully clear.
Officials say the investigation will be lead by Florida’s Department of Law Enforcement.
On Monday, FSU added that Pritchard’s family was “thankful for the support from so many people, as well as the care from first responders and medical professionals,” they said.
The school stated his family “asks that their privacy be respected at this time.”
“This remains an active investigation,” the office of Gadsden County Sheriff Morris A. Young posted Monday morning on Facebook.
