Dec. 15 (UPI) — Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi spoke briefly with her family by phone Sunday evening and shared information about how she had been detained, according to relatives.
The Narges Foundation said she reportedly was arrested Friday by Iranian authorities.
Mohammadi managed to speak with family after almost three days with no communication.
She was accused of “cooperating with the Israeli government.”
The Paris-based human rights organization said that security and police forces “violently detained” Mohammadi and other human rights activists during a memorial for Khosrow Alikordi, a lawyer recently discovered dead.
Mohammadi was among 39 people arrested.
Reports from Mohammadi’s family, shared through the Narges Foundation, described accounts from witnesses who said that about fifteen unidentified agents in civilian clothing assaulted her at the memorial.
Some attackers reportedly dragged her by the hair and struck her with batons and clubs.
Mohammadi was able to contact her family briefly Sunday evening.
“She emphasized that she does not even know which security authority is currently detaining her, and that no explanation has been given in this regard,” a statement read in part.
It added that Mohammadi’s physical condition at the time of the call was “not good, and she appeared unwell.”
On Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Committee expressed serious alarm over what it described as Mohammadi’s harsh detention and urged the Iranian regime to guarantee her well-being and to release her immediately.
