Feb. 24 (UPI) — Sinners and Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler is reviving the science-fiction drama, The X-Files, for Hulu.
The Hollywood Reporter said the streaming service has green-lit a pilot, which Coogler will write and direct.
Danielle Deadwyler, who starred in Euphoria, The Woman in the Yard, The Piano Lesson and Till, is to lead the series, according to Deadline.com.
“Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena,” an official synopsis said.
No other casting has been announced yet.
The original show’s creator, Chris Carter, will serve as an executive producer on the re-boot.
The X-Files starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson and initially ran from 1993 to 2002. It was revived for 10th and 11th seasons in 2016 and 2018 respectively.
Coogler’s Sinners is currently up for a record-setting 16 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.
