Feb. 24 (UPI) — A Texas truck driver took a break to visit friends in Maryland and ended up winning $2 million from a scratch-off lottery ticket he bought in the state.
The man told Maryland Lottery officials he was taking a break from his work as a long-haul trucker to visit friends in Maryland when he made a stop at Martin’s grocery store in Hagerstown.
“I was grocery shopping and the lottery was definitely not on my list,” he said. “But then I saw the vending machine.”
The player selected a $30 Ace of Spades scratch-off ticket.
“I’ve had good luck with $10 scratch-offs, but because it was sort of a spontaneous thing, I decided to splurge.”
The gamble paid off when he uncovered a $2 million prize.
The winner said he plans to share his winnings with his family — and will make sure to visit Martin’s again next time he’s in Hagerstown.
