Dec. 26 (UPI) — Texas junior running back Tre Wisner, the Longhorns’ top rusher, will enter the transfer portal, his agency. AiC Sports, confirmed Friday.
Wisner led the Longhorns with 597 yards on 131 carries over nine appearances in 2025. The junior running back scored four touchdowns.
Wisner, who missed three games with a leg injury, also led the Longhorns as a sophomore, with 1,064 yards and six scores.
The 6-foot, 194-pound running back dashed for 155 yards in his last appearance for the Longhorns, a 27-17 win over Texas A&M on Nov. 28 in Austin.
He will not play when the Longhorns take on the Michigan Wolverines in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.
Wisner was ESPN’s No. 33 high school running back prospect in the class of 2023. He was the No. 28 running back in the Top247 rankings.
Wisner’s decision comes after the Longhorns signed 2026 five-star running back Derrek Cooper from Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School (Hollywood, Fla.). He is also the fourth Longhorns running back to hit the transfer portal, joining C.J. Baxter, the top running back recruit from the class of 2023, Jerrick Gibson and Rickey Stewart.
Christian Clark and James Simon are among the top remaining running backs on the Longhorns’ roster.
Texas and Michigan will kick off at 3 p.m. EST Wednesday at Camping World Stadium.
