IL GOP Chair Misses Opportunity to Promote Black Republicans Running in IL-02 Race

Why should voters in Illinois care about the local Chicago media ignoring black Republican candidates in the race for Jesse Jackson, Jr.’s old congressional seat when the Illinois State Republican Party Chairman won’t acknowledge them either?

Last week on Fox Chicago, Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Brady was asked what the party is going to do about the lack of minority appeal within the GOP.

Rather than take the opportunity to promote that there are five black Republicans currently running for a congressional seat in Illinois, Brady instead discussed national figures in the party like Senator Marco Rubio and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Brady also blamed the social issues of the Republican Party, saying those issues “scare suburban women” and “scare minorities.”

Breitbart News has documented the blatantly biased and inaccurate news coverage of the race by the local Chicago media. The Chicago media have provided robust coverage of the Democrat primary in the 2nd District race, while at the same time hardly mentioning that there is a Republican primary as well. The trend continued on January 17th, when the first major Republican debate was held in the far south end of the district, in rural Peotone, IL.

All of the “mainstream” Chicago media were invited by the event sponsors, however, not one outlet, including major papers the Chicago Tribune or the Sun Times, thought the event was worthy of coverage.

All three candidates that participated in the debate, and the only GOP candidates that have attended any of the candidate forums in the district, were welcomed warmly by the mostly rural-white crowd.

Perhaps a better question to ask is, how can the Illinois Republican Party be a place for anyone, let alone minorities, when their very own chairman won’t even acknowledge a federal election taking place in the state?

The Illinois Republican Party did not respond to request for comment.
