FreedomWorks: DC Politicians Don't Want to Be 'Skunks at a Garden Party'

FreedomWorks CEO Matt Kibbe said the nation’s debt is a big reason why the country should not intervene in Syria and noted that politicians do not want to cut spending because they do not want to feel like they are “skunks at a garden party” in Washington, D.C.

Kibbe appeared on Breitbart News’ broadcast of the “Exempt America” rally on Tuesday with Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon and said Americans realize the potential consequences of $17 trillion in debt and an intervention in Syria that may be open-ended. Kibbe said Republicans “went wrong” during the last decade in giving Democrats nearly everything they wanted in terms of spending for their support on national security issues, which contributed to the current debt crisis. 

He said Washington is filled with “a bunch of lemmings” right now on matters of spending because nobody wants to be the “skunk at the garden party” saying the nation cannot afford various programs. 

“They are not willing to make tough choices anymore,” Kibbe said of the Washington political establishment.

Kibbe said that when he saw House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) come out of the briefing “arm-and-arm” in support of military intervention in Syria, he was immediately reminded of when Boehner and Pelosi teamed up to support President George W. Bush’s TARP program.

Kibbe, though, said the grassroots opposition is not spontaneous anymore and noted grassroots groups are more organized than they were five years ago, which allows them to put more pressure on the bipartisan permanent political class in Washington, D.C.
