Rep. Labrador: Not Unreasonable to Ask for One-Year Obamacare Delay

On Meet the Press, Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) said it was not unreasonable for House Republicans to ask for a one-year delay of Obamacare when President Barack Obama has handed out one-year delays on a variety of provisions of the law. 

“If you’re going to uphold the law, then you’re not going to be delaying it,” Labrador said. “The president has already delayed it for big businesses. They have delayed it for all his friends.”

Labrador said he would prefer to repeal the law and argued that he felt the law was not ready for primetime. The House on Saturday voted to attach a one-year delay of Obamacare to a short-term resolution to fund the government before the current funding resolution expires on Monday. 

“All we’re asking for in the House of Representatives is for a one-year delay,” Labrador said. “Just like the unions are asking for a one-year delay, like [Obama] has given to big businesses.”

Yet, Labrador said Democrats are “not even willing to meet us halfway” or even negotiate with House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH).  

“I don’t think that’s an unreasonable thing for us to be asking for,” Labrador said of the one-year delay in Obamacare.
