Facebook Emails New Gun Sale Guidelines: 'Follow All Applicable Laws'

On March 18th, Facebook emailed Shooter Swap in Austin, Texas, to inform the company that Facebook’s new firearm-related policy is to require users to include a message of “follow all applicable laws” and limit page access to persons aged 18 and over.

Although Shooter Swap “does not facilitate gun sales” through Facebook, it does use the social media giant “to promote its brand.”

On March 5th, Breitbart News reported the NRA claimed victory over Facebook’s refusal to capitulate to Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America’s effort to get Facebook to abolish gun advertisements and chats on the social media platform. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence saw the NRA’s point and said Facebook had not gone far enough in opposing gun sales but had issued “a mere warning to follow the law.”

When Breitbart News spoke with Shooter Swap’s Jake Young on March 18th, he said, “We already follow the law and tell users to follow the specific laws and regulations in their states – and we did so before Facebook asked us to.”
