Obama Approval Rating Under 50% for 290 Days

President Barack Obama’s Gallup job approval rating has been under 50% for 290 days, a trend that threatens Democrats’ already uphill climb in the Nov. 4 midterm elections.

According to Gallup, the last time Obama’s approval rating was at 50% was June 27, 2013. Today, Obama’s approval rating stands at just 43%.

Equally troubling for Democrats is the fact that for the last 200 days, Obama’s disapproval rating has remained higher than his approval rating. The last time Gallup recorded Obama’s approval rating being higher than his disapproval rating was September 25, 2013, and even then it was 47% approve versus 46% disapprove. 

Democrats have expressed their displeasure with Obama and his deeply unpopular Obamacare program. One Democratic member of Congress told the New York Times that the president has become “poisonous” to Democrats running in the upcoming midterm elections.

Among the key drivers of Obama’s unpopularity is his controversial Obamacare policy that resulted in the cancellation of 5 million individuals’ insurance policies. Democratic strategist James Carville says vulnerableDemocrats like Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) should not campaign withObama. And Democratic pollster Celinda Lake advises Democrats, “don’t defend it, say it was flawed from the beginning, and we’re going to fix it.”
