200 NY Airline Cabin Cleaners Walk Off Job Citing Ebola Fears

Nearly 200 New York airline cabin cleaners walked off the job at LaGuardia Airport in protest over the Obama administration’s refusal to temporarily halt airline travel from West Africa into the U.S. 

“We are always with feces and near garbage,” New York-based airline cabin cleaner Sharekul Islam told Reuters.

A bipartisan group of 26 members of Congress have signed a letter to President Obama urging the State Department to cease travel and restrict visas issued to citizens of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. The number of daily visitors to the U.S. from those countries remains an estimated 150 people a day–a minor disruption to reduce the likelihood of an Ebola outbreak in the U.S., say supporters. 

Still, the Obama administration refuses. 

Center for Disease Control (CDC) chief Dr. Tom Frieden claims sealing off America’s borders would worsen the Ebola threat because such a move “increases people’s distrust of government.”
