At a town hall in South Carolina today, President Obama pointed out that there isn’t equal pay at the White House because his wife Michelle Obama isn’t getting paid anything.

“Now Michelle would point out First Ladies get paid nothing, so there’s clearly not equal pay at the White House when it comes to her and me,” he joked.

Obama explained that, before he moved into the White House, he wanted Michelle Obama to get paid as much as she could, because it made it easier for the family to pay the bills.

“I want a big paycheck for Michelle,” he said calling the issue a “no brainer.”

Obama blamed Republicans for blocking equal pay legislation in Congress that he argued would help women in the workplace.

“We’re just going to keep on pushing until the light bulb goes off above the heads of some of these Republican friends of mine,” he said.
