Dem Congresswoman: Trump Hosting SNL Is ‘Endangering Latinos’

In an interview with CNN on Monday, Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) said Saturday Night Live is “endangering Latinos” by allowing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to host this weekend’s episode.

“I happen to like the SNL show,” Sanchez told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin. “But certainly there have been some times when SNL and its skits have gone overboard.”

“But in particular, we are upset that Mr. Trump is hosting this rather than just being a skit,” she added. “It is enabling him after he’s said these derogatory comments. And NBCUniversal said to us early on, ‘We’re not going to stand for this.’ So we are simply pushing back at SNL and saying, ‘Uh uh, this is not correct, and you are endangering Latinos when you do this type of of a thing.'”

On Monday, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, of which Sanchez is a member, approved a “Statement of Opposition” calling on SNL to disinvite Trump.

“Mr. Trump’s racist remarks and his continued rhetoric demonizing Latinos and immigrants has created fear within these communities around the country, many of which are represented in Congress by Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus,” the statement read.

Trump is set to host the November 7 episode of NBC’s long-running late-night variety show.
