Planned Parenthood Praises Nancy Pelosi for Naming Speier to Investigative Committee

Planned Parenthood has praised House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) for her appointment of Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough), a staunchly pro-abortion congresswoman, to a newly formed House select committee investigating claims into Planned Parenthood wrongdoing.

By her own admission, it would seem that Rep. Speier has already made up her mind regarding the innocence of Planned Parenthood and the iniquity of those who would question the legitimacy of Planned Parenthood’s activities.

Speier is a vehement advocate of Planned Parenthood and personally requested her appointment to the Committee, which she says will “put the spotlight on what has become a vicious campaign by some.” In her own Tweet, Speier says she is glad that the Committee was formed because it will allow the abortion giant to be exonerated, further declaring that the GOP is out to “attack women’s health.”

“We should demand truth. Period,” Speier said in a recent interview. “I’m actually pleased the committee has been created because I think it’s going to once again put the spotlight on what has become a vicious campaign by some.”

In 2011, Speier testified during a Congressional debate opposing cutting federal funding to Planned Parenthood, recounting that she had had an abortion at 17 weeks years earlier. Her remarks won her kudos from the left for her “incredibly courageous” revelation. Though she passionately supports abortion rights, Speier recognized in her testimony that she had “lost a baby.”

Speier lamented what she called a “vendetta” against Planned Parenthood carried out by the GOP.

So far three congressional committees have reviewed the policies and practices of Planned Parenthood since the Center for Medical Progress began releasing undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of organs from aborted human fetuses.

The most recent investigative committee was created in October.

Speier has expressed nothing but esteem for the abortion giant: “I appreciate Planned Parenthood and all they do for women, and it’s time to stop demonizing them. They are a phenomenal nonprofit providing great service,” she said.

The fifth-term Democrat has been a proponent of legal abortion for decades, including in the California Assembly and Senate.
