It’s a good thing laws only apply to the little people in Obama’s America, or Hillary Clinton and her State Department colleagues would be in a lot of trouble. The State Department has once again violated a court order by failing to meet the deadline for producing Clinton’s emails.
“We have worked diligently to come as close to the goal as possible, but with the large number of documents involved and the holiday schedule we have not met the goal this month. To narrow that gap, the State Department will make another production of former Secretary Clinton’s email sometime next week,” the department said in a statement.
As the Washington Times notes, the State Department missed the first email production deadline, got caught up, and then fell behind again.
5,500 pages of documents are supposed to be released on New Year’s Eve, right when absolutely no one will pay attention to them. The final 5,400 emails will be released next month… which the Times notes is “just days before Iowa voters hold the caucuses that kick off the primary season, deciding whether Mrs. Clinton will be Democrats’ presidential nominee.”
Also, as The Hill observes, the hasty production of about half the emails State was required to hand over in December means most of the documents won’t have “fully completed data fields on the [Freedom of Information Act] website,” so searching them will be more difficult.
It all has such a marvelous banana-republic feel to it, which should outrage the taxpayers forced to pay trillions of dollars for a government that can’t even follow the sort of document-handling requirements it routinely imposes on small business owners. Remember, we would have exactly zero emails if the House Benghazi Committee hadn’t demanded documents the State Department had to admit it was incapable of producing, because they were stuck on a private server that ended up sitting in a bathroom closet in Denver.
Why should the State Department have so much continuing difficulty producing emails Clinton insisted were innocuous, and contained no sensitive information? Of course, those following the story know that hundreds of her emails turned out to contain sensitive information, and a few were even classified Top Secret, but the very notion of the gigantic State Department fighting a losing battle to comply with a court order for emails… from a SecState who famously insisted she didn’t do anything important with email… makes a delirious mockery of Clinton’s excuses.
We Little People don’t get to ignore regulations with impunity, dismiss laws we don’t like as an unacceptable burden on our time, ignore annoying federal judges, or evade responsibility for our actions by holding a media circus. The greater the burden of the State becomes on the rest of us, the more our Ruling Class takes a pass. People like Hillary Clinton have no intention of living in the booby-trapped labyrinth of rules where they think the rest of us belong.
