MANCHESTER, New Hampshire – Mark Campbell, national political director for the Ted Cruz campaign, tells Breitbart News Cruz’s victory in the Iowa caucuses Monday can be replicated in the New Hampshire primary next week.
Campbell was among a dozen die-hard Cruz campaign workers and volunteers on hand at the Cruz New Hampshire headquarters in Manchester when Breitbart News arrived at 11:30 pm Monday night.
Ted Cruz’s victory speech was playing on a super-sized big screen television as the weary but happy team listened in rapt attention.
“You should have been here an hour ago,” Campbell told Breitbart News. “The place was packed.”
Campbell has been camped out in New Hampshire for several months and was beaming with confidence about the chances for victory in the Granite State’s primary next Tuesday.
“We’re the only campaign that has a ground game in the state,” he told Breitbart News.
Cruz’s convincing victory Monday night in the Iowa caucuses–he won 28 percent of the vote, compared to 24 percent for Donald Trump and 23 percent for Marco Rubio–was attributed in part to his vast ground game, estimated to be comprised of 5,000 door-to-door canvassers.
The question now for many is whether Cruz can replicate that success in New Hampshire.
In contrast to Iowa, where an estimated 57 percent of GOP caucus attendees historically have been self-described Christian evangelicals, New Hampshire has one of the lowest percentages of evangelicals of any state in the country.
A recent Pew Research Poll estimated that only 13 percent of New Hampshire residents self describe as evangelicals.
Campbell did not consider that difference a likely determinant of the outcome in New Hampshire.
“We’ve knocked on 20,000 doors,” he told Breitbart News.
“Faith and values matter to voters in New Hampshire,” he added.
Campbell told Breitbart News that Cruz will be landing in New Hampshire at 3:45 am this morning, and his first event is scheduled for noon.
