Permitless carry passed the Idaho Senate Wednesday with a vote of 27-8.
According to 580 KIDO, Greg Pruett, president of Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, reacted to the Senate vote, saying, “We are pleased that the Senate has passed SB 1389 with an overwhelming majority. Idaho citizens are one step closer to seeing Permitless Carry in Idaho. On to the House!”
On March 15, Breitbart News reported that the permitless carry legislation, Senate Bill 1389, abolishes the permit requirement for Idahoans 21-years and older who want to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense. Carrying a handgun openly in Idaho is already legal, and SB 1389 ensures that people carrying guns will not suddenly be criminalized if their jacket, sweat shirt, or other article of clothing covers their gun.
The Associated Press quoted Pruett, who summed it up this way: “You could really call this a ‘put on your coat’ bill. It allows gun owners to put on a coat without fear of breaking the law.”
Permitless carry is the law of the land in Alaska, Arizona, Kansas, Maine, Montana, Vermont, Wyoming, and now, West Virginia. Each of those states also retained their concealed permit licensing system, for the benefits of interstate reciprocity, and SB 1389 guarantees that Idaho’s permit system remains intact for the same reason.
