The Senate Budget Committee approved the landmark tax overhaul legislation Tuesday afternoon, clearing the final hurdle for the bill to reach the Senate floor.

The committee meeting was a dramatic moment for the bill, as the votes of at least two GOP senators were uncertain until they were cast. But Sen. Bob Corker and Sen. Ron Johnson both voted for the bill.

Sen. Corker said he had been reassured minutes before the vote that there would be a trigger included in the final legislation that would increase taxes if revenues fell short of projections.

The final vote was strictly along party lines, with 12 Republicans voting for the measure and 11 Democrats voting against it.
