A new poll from NBC News released on Thursday revealed that 60 percent of Americans who watched the State of the Union approved of President Donald Trump’s speech.
President Trump’s State of the Union address drew in roughly 45 million viewers, which Trump claimed was the highest viewership in history.
The NBC News survey revealed that of the 69 percent of Americans who said they watched or followed coverage of the speech, 60 percent believe that Trump focused on the right issues, while 38 percent of Americans argue that Trump centered on the wrong policies.
Forty percent of people surveyed said they watched Trump’s speech, 29 percent did not watch the speech but followed news coverage of the speech, while 30 percent told pollsters they did not watch the speech or follow news coverage.
Of those that watched or followed coverage of Trump’s speech, a plurality (or 35 percent) of Americans were enthusiastic about the president’s address to Congress. Twenty-one percent were satisfied but not enthusiastic, while 26 percent were dissatisfied but not angry, and 16 percent were angry about the speech.
Thirty-five percent of Americans credited Trump for the economy improving, 21 percent gave Trump some credit, 20 percent did not give Trump much credit, while 19 percent gave no credit to the president for the growing economy.
The economy added 200,000 jobs in January; economists expected the economy to grow by 180,000 last month. The unemployment remains at 4.1 percent according to the Labor Department. Average hourly wages jumped by 2.9 percent when compared to last January; this amounts to the largest increase since 2009.
During President Trump’s State of the Union address, Trump argued that he would like to compromise on the “Dreamer” illegal aliens while arguing that “Americans are dreamers too.”
President Trump declared, ” My duty, and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber, is to defend Americans — to protect their safety, their families, their communities, and their right to the American Dream. Because Americans are dreamers too.”
