This moment is “literally a turning point for the U.S.,” Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) said on Thursday following the tragic assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
“Like most conservatives, I’m still not able to process what happened yesterday. I can’t help but to think of Charlie’s family, his kids, his parents. What they must be going through is unimaginable,” the Ohio senator said in a post on X Thursday morning.
“I am convinced this moment is literally a turning point for the U.S.,” he said, predicting that many more will join the movement Kirk started and “be even more motivated to speak freely, engage in political debate, seek out facts, reject the left wing media narratives, and get their country back.”
“For all of that and more, we have Charlie to thank,” Moreno added. “RIP my friend.”
His words come as countless tributes to Kirk pour in following the tragic assassination that occurred during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
Kirk’s murderer is still at large. The FBI asked the general public for help on Wednesday night.
“The FBI is working alongside our local and state law enforcement partners in Utah to fully investigate and seek justice in the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University,” the FBI said.
“Anyone with information, photos, and video from the incident can help the FBI identity more answers by sharing the files here,” it added.
Attorney General Pam Bondi has also made it clear that “we will not rest until justice is served.”
“Charlie was an American hero whose love for God, country, and family guided every step of his life. He was a faithful servant who poured himself into the fight for justice and freedom,” Bondi said in a statement on Wednesday following the tragedy.
“He challenged his generation with conviction, intellect, and dialogue. He believed deeply in the power of ideas and in the responsibility each of us has to defend the truth,” she continued, adding that Kirk’s “legacy of faith, love, and service will endure in the lives he shaped and the cause he so selflessly championed.”
