Former Navy Seal and Wisconsin third congressional district Republican candidate Derrick Van Orden told Breitbart News Saturday that Rep. Ron Kind’s (D-WI) “duplicitous” congressional track record inspired his run for Congress.
Derrick Van Orden said he was inspired to run for Congress after witnessing alleged moderate Kind vote to impeach President Donald Trump.
He told Breitbart News Saturday host Matthew Boyle, “I had no intention of returning to service, this is not how I anticipated the rest of my life to start working from. I firmly believe in term limits. I looked into this guy Ron Kind and we did a lot of messaging stuff when I was in the military and you look at what the person is saying and what they’re actually doing. I just found on so many different levels that he is duplicitous. He plays himself as a hometown boy, just a simple guy that went off to Washington, DC, and that he is a moderate. Well, this guy, Ron Kind, voted with Adam Schiff 97 percent of the time. Jerry Nadler, 96 percent of the time. Nancy Pelosi, 94 percent of the time. With the entire ‘Squad,’ 93.25 percent of the time, his votes matched those folks.”
“I decided, along with my family, we’re going to take him out of office, and we’re going to restore some Wisconsin values back to Washington, DC. There’s a reason we’re called the heartland, the heartland of the nation, and the values of western Wisconsin they’re family values. We care about our neighbors and our communities,” he added.
Kind represents one of the 31 congressional districts that President Trump won during the 2016 presidential election, but House Democrats flipped during the 2018 midterm elections. Republicans need to retake roughly 18 seats to regain the House majority.
“I’m going to tell the people of Wisconsin’s third district the truth of what he [Kind] has done and what he has not done. And a little more truth in D.C. will be helpful for everybody,” he said.
