Nov. 27 (UPI) — Former Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin didn’t hold back Monday when he fired a dis at the Volunteers as they search for a new coach.

The Volunteers are still on the prowl, after first agreeing to hire Greg Schianobefore rescinding that offer as fans protested.

Kiffin, 42, coached at Tennessee in 2009. He led the Volunteers to a 7-6 record before leaving to coach USC. He was fired as Trojans coach in 2013. Kiffin has led Florida Atlantic to a 9-3 record this season.

CBS Sports columnist Dennis Dodd wrote an article about Tennessee’s coaching search on Monday. In the article, Dodd wrote that the Volunteers should bring back Kiffin.

The Owls coach thought otherwise.

“As Tennessee again finds itself engulfed in flames, Lane Kiffin waits by his phone. Not waiting at all! Getting this team ready to win its 9th straight against a great North Texas team,” Kiffin tweeted. “Come to the championship here in Boca Dennis at #thefaU…”

FAU hosts North Texas at noon on Saturday at FAU Stadium. The Owls have a chance to win their first C-USA championship.

Tennessee lost 42-24 to Vanderbilt on Saturday in their final game of the season. The Volunteers finished with a 4-8 record and went 0-8 in the Southeastern Conference. The disappointing 2017 campaign came after back-to-back 9-4 seasons. Tennessee fired coach Butch Jones on Nov. 12.
