Colin Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, took several direct shots at rap mogul Jay-Z on Thursday, accusing him of being “used” by the NFL.
On Wednesday, it was learned that the NFL had been in direct communication with Jay-Z and his entertainment group Roc Nation, for well over a year. Meaning, that while the rapper was publicly claiming to support Kaepernick he was at the same time negotiating a multi-million dollar deal with the very people Kaepernick believed were shutting him out of the league.
Diab responded to the news with dismay:
W O W. So this partnership deal started that long ago? I’m just at a loss for words.https://t.co/0t4CEMQqh7 pic.twitter.com/HetB8L1uHW

However, on Thursday, Diab responded much more forcefully, delivering several strong rebukes to Jay-Z and the NFL.
First, Diab retweeted longtime Kaepernick friend and protest partner Eric Reid, after he accused Jay-Z of helping the NFL bury Kaepernick’s career:
These aren’t mutually exclusive. They can both happen at the same time! It looks like your goal was to make millions and millions of dollars by assisting the NFL in burying Colin’s career. https://t.co/LFBZpbj2tw

Next, she captioned a tweet with a story from Jemele Hill. In the story, Hill points out that contrary to supporting Kaepernick, Jay-Z actually helped the NFL banish him:
I never thought I would see this headline in my lifetime. I can’t put in words the disappointment and disgust #IMWITHKAP FOREVER 👉🏽👉🏽👉🏽Jay-Z Helps the NFL Banish Colin Kaepernick – The Atlantic https://t.co/avK3tc1tBq

From there, Diab went off:
And Jay let it happen. https://t.co/Dylp8JaHBK

Jay-Z knew better and did NOT do better. The NFL used him but that shouldn’t surprise anyone bc that’s how the nfl moves. That’s what the NFL always does – BUY PR LOOKS. Thankfully the people see through this even if it means calling out their idol. https://t.co/H4EeObfD2A

It’s PART 2 of holding y’all idol Jay-Z & NFL accountable. I don’t worry about behind the scenes politics like others are. Nah. Not me. I’m on now on New York’s very own @HOT97 #nessa3to7 every afternoon. https://t.co/ftpvXGXDgd

Diab also criticized Jay-Z in comments obtained by BET:
The disappointment in Jay-Z isn’t in the partnership. The disappointment is wrapping it in social justice… I don’t mind you doing a business deal, but I do mind you wrapping it in social justice when you’re working with an organization that denies someone an opportunity.
[Kaepernick] didn’t just take a knee, he put the work behind it. And he lost his career for it. Jay has phenomenal music, he’s done so much, nobody’s taking that away from him! Do your business! But don’t talk to me about that League when they’re doing dishonorable things.
Diab added, “I don’t care who you are. Wrong is wrong. You’re not gonna act funny towards my family.”
For the moment, Kaepernick seems content to let Diab and Reid do his speaking for him. The former 49er hasn’t addressed Jay-Z directly, instead, as of the time of this writing, he’s only thanked Eric Reid for his loyalty and support.
