The Times has revealed several cases in the past year of deported criminal migrants returning to the UK and using EU and human rights laws to fight their removals.
An asylum seeker from Syria has been sentenced to 60 days in prison followed by a deportation order for hitting anti-Islamisation campaigner Rasmus Paludan in the head with a rock.
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has blocked deportation cases involving migrants who have been convicted of crimes or deemed a security threat, refusing to allow them to be deported in case they face torture in their own countries.
While other countries in Europe struggle with deportations, Switzerland’s statistics office has claimed that the country has deported over 1,000 criminal migrants in 2017.
