According to the BLS, the African American unemployment rate remained more than twice as high as the unemployment rate among white workers, which declined from 4.4 percent in October to 4.3 percent in November. African American unemployment increased from 9.2 percent to 9.4 percent from October to November.

Record Number of Men NOT in Labor Force

A record number of American men were outside the labor force last month, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Based on historical data, the 38,151,000 American men not in the labor force is a record going back to the first available data in June of 1976 when just 15,349,000 men were out of the workforce.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in November 56,295,000 women (ages 16 and older) were neither employed nor had looked for a job in four weeks. More than half of U.S. states experienced job losses last month, according to data released Tuesday by the Labor Department. The Bureau of Labor Statics reported that employment dropped in 27 states. Twenty states and the District of Columbia saw employment increase and three states had employment figures that remained unchanged.

According to the not seasonally adjusted BLS numbers, in September 24,928,000 foreign-born people were employed in the U.S., growing by 14,000 jobs compared to August when 24,914,000 foreign-born people were employed. Native-born Americans, meanwhile, experienced a loss in jobs, declining 262,000 from August’s level of 124,314,000 to 124,052,000 employed native-born people in September.
