Will Obama Solve His Guantánamo Problem by Returning It to Cuba?

During Monday’s flag-raising ceremony at the newly reopened Cuba embassy in Washington, D.C., Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez made a point to note to reporters that the reestablishment of diplomatic relations would not be complete for the communist dictatorship without the “return” of the entire Guantánamo Bay military base to Cuban sovereignty.

‘A Victory for Our People’: Communist Icons Take over D.C. for Cuban Flag Raising

The State Department has raised the Cuban flag over the new embassy in Washington, D.C. while the American embassy remains barren in Havana, though operating officially as an embassy. It released its first press release today as an official embassy and not the Office of American Interests. It will be run by interim head Jeffrey DeLaurentis as Congress gears up to oppose the appointment of any ambassador to the communist dictatorship so long as the Castro regime continues to flagrantly violate human rights.

Bipartisan Support Against U.S.-Cuba Relations Exists

President Obama’s move to take Cuba off the State Sponsors of Terrorism list and “normalize” relations between the U.S. and that criminal regime has been met with bipartisan disapproval in the U.S. Congress, leaving many Americans questioning where their values as a country have gone.

Cubans Lament Obama’s Concessions: ‘This Doesn’t Help Us at All’

In a speech announcing the reestablishment of an American embassy in Havana, President Obama implored those in Congress who opposed his unilateral concessions to the communist Castro regime to “listen to the Cuban people” before taking a stance. Multiple reports citing Cuban nationals in Havana and throughout the island find that many are extremely apprehensive about the legitimacy a new embassy will give the Castro regime and are disappointed to see the United States support communist oppression.

Obama Removes FARC-, Hezbollah-Tied Cuban Regime from State Dept Terror List

The White House announced today that Cuba will be removed from the State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism, despite its ties to Marxist, jihadist, and other separatist terrorist organizations. The removal of the state sponsor of terror label is believed to be the beginning of diplomatic relations with Cuba that can lead to the potential establishment of a U.S. embassy in Havana.

Castro Knows How to Play on Obama’s Narcissicm

The Castro brothers haven’t survived in power without being canny politicians as well as ruthless tyrants. And they have President Barack Obama pegged: they know that his ego trumps all other priorities, and are willing to flatter him to win concessions. Raúl Castro used his country’s debut at the Summit of the Americas to deliver an hour-long rant against the U.S. role in the region–then excused Obama: “I apologize to him because President Obama had no responsibility for this.”

Reuters reports today that President Barack Obama is preparing to “act quickly” upon the State Department’s recommendation regarding whether Cuba will remain on its State Sponsors of Terrorism list. Cuba, which has for decades aiding Marxist terror groups like the FARC and ETA, has demanded their status be amended as a condition of reestablishing diplomatic relations with the United States.

On Cuba, Obama’s SOTU Self-Praise for Political Prisoner Advocacy Rings Hollow

President Obama’s State of the Union speech tonight, like so many of its predecessors, relied heavily on America’s moral duty to lead the world in values for its applause lines. The President vowed to “respect human dignity,” to “defend free speech, and advocate for political prisoners, and condemn the persecution of women, or religious minorities, or people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender,” to robust audience support.

Obama’s Growing Cuban Mess

Do we believe President Obama’s take on the recent “normalization” deal he struck, or do we believe his like-minded counterpart, Raul Castro, considering his and his brother’s long history of lying to the world?
