A Siberian man is suing Bethesda Game Studios for emotional distress after he allegedly became so addicted to playing the game Fallout 4 that he lost his job and wife.

The man claims that he missed work so many times to play the popular open-world role-playing game that he was fired. His wife also left him supposedly because of the amount of time he spent playing, and he stopped seeing friends and his health has deteriorated as a result of skipping meals and sleeping to continue playing.

He is suing the developer, Bethesda Game Studios, as well as the Russian localization company that translated the game for 500,000 Rubles (roughly 7,024 US dollars at the time of this writing) for emotional distress, placing the onus for his destructive behavior on the developers for making a game that was supposedly too addictive.

“If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it,” he claimed. “I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays.” His lawyers want to “see how far we can go regarding this case,” as it would be the first of its kind in Russia.
