Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk claimed the competition for artificial intelligence superiority would be the cause of the next world war in a series of tweets over the weekend.

Citing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claim that “Whoever becomes the leader in [A.I.] will become the ruler of the world,” Musk replied, “It begins…”

“China, Russia, soon all countries [with] strong computer science. Competition for AI superiority at national level most likely cause of WW3 [in my opinion],” Musk continued. “May be initiated not by the country leaders, but one of the AI’s, if it decides that a prepemptive strike is most probable path to victory.”

After one user replied, “This makes the N Korea threat look like small beer,” Musk claimed North Korea should “be low on our list of concerns for civilizational existential risk.”

“[North Korea] has no entangling alliances that [would] polarize world into war,” he declared.

In February, Musk warned that deep A.I. could be “dangerous” to the human race, who he described as already part-cyborg, should it overtake us in intelligence.

The billionaire tech entrepreneur also claimed humans would soon merge with machines, while in August he called upon the United Nations to implement a worldwide ban of autonomous warfare.

Musk is currently attempting to raise $100 million to launch a manufacturer of “nice robots” and to combine human brains with robots.
