Wolf Blitzer Wonders if Capitol Hill Shooting Will Lead to End of Govt Shutdown

After police fired shots at and killed a woman who led them on a car chase on Thursday in front of the U.S. Capitol, CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer said he hoped the incident would help end the government shutdown.

While interviewing Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX) about the incident, Blitzer said he had “one final question” for him at the end of the interview. Blitzer said since the incident “clearly scares everyone up on Capital Hill” do “you think it is going to propel you guys up there, Democrats and Republicans, to say, ‘you know what? Enough is enough, let’s get back to work and end this government shutdown?'”

Farenthold, who told Blitzer he was worried about his daughter who was having lunch with one of his staffers and an intern who had gone out to look for a vacuum cleaner for the office, said that he had been “advocating” to end the government shutdown “as soon as possible.” He said “maybe some good” could come from an “unfortunate” situation at the Capitol.

Blitzer then responded, “Let’s hope, indeed. The government shutdown has lasted long enough. Everyone’s gotta get back to work.”
