Michelle Obama: Most Sundays Are for Napping Over Church

On Monday broadcasting live from the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on “LIVE with Kelly and Michael,” co-hosts Michael Strahan and Kelly Ripa interviewed first lady Michelle Obama. Strahan asked Mrs. Obama what a typical Sunday with the Obama family is like.

Partial transcript as follows:

OBAMA: We try to go to church as much as possible but when the kids get older, you know, Sunday is some kind of practice, rehearsal, birthday party, you know. So getting us all together on a Sunday is becoming more difficult now that the girls are getting older. But if we’re not going to church, we really try to use Sunday as family downtime where we can kind of breathe and catch up and maybe take a little nap every now and then if we’re not working.

STRAHAN: So if it’s not Easter and it’s a typical Sunday, I could picture you guys lounging around here and napping.

OBAMA: Yes, the Truman balcony which is right up here is the one place we can go which is sort of like our backyard and you have a great view of the Washington Monument. We spend a lot of time when the weather’s warm on the Truman balcony hanging out.
